Give Doom a Graphical Enhancement and New Weapons
The Beautiful Doom Mod is a free mod designed to give the classic first-person shooter Doom a facelift. The effect is to make the 1990s release look closer aesthetically to later FPS games. In addition to the graphical enhancements, the Beautiful Doom Mod adds two new weapon sets as well as Vanilla Guns.
Note that the Beautiful Doom Mod is designed not for the original version of Doom but rather GZDoom. In this, it is similar to other GZDoom mods like the Doom Shinobi Mod.
A new look for classic Doom
Designed to be used specifically with GZDoom, an open-source version of the original Doom game, the Beautiful Doom Mod will give an all-around aesthetic overhaul. Graphics and audio alike will become slicker, more polished, and more appealing during vanilla gameplay. The idea is to give this vintage game an update in terms of presentation.
Better-looking weapons
Although designed to replicate the core mechanics of the original Doom, the Beautiful Doom Mod adds a range of effects. If you fire a gun, you will see smoke and spent casings flying from the barrel. Hitting background objects will cause debris to smash into the air. The animations for individual weapons are also smoother.
Three sets of guns
With Vanilla Guns and Enhanced Guns, the fist and the pistol are more effective. Plus, other weapons have alternative attacks. The Modern Guns set comes with recoil, reload and other mechanics that add realism. The three sets can be toggled in the Beautiful Dooms setting menu.
High compatibility
While mods designed for GZDoom often run into compatibility issues with one another, the Beautiful Doom Mod is designed to function alongside other mods. Getting it to work smoothly might require adjusting the settings, however. Fortunately, the mod comes with official documentation that provides an in-depth guide to which adjustments might be necessary.
